How Homeopathy Works — and the Hidden Risks of Polypharmacy
I hope you have had a good month since I last landed in your inbox.
It’s February now and we’ve spent a hearty day celebrating those we love, and loving ourselves in the process.
Early Spring, or late winter has arrived … The snow drops have popped up and I can see daffodil shoots are poking through the soil, it’s lighter later - oh how I missed the light!
After a few meaningful conversations this month, I thought I’d take this moment to share more on how homeopathy works, if you’re curious …
Homeopathic medicine is energy medicine, a bit like reiki. It works at different levels, esoteric as well as physical level. It’s a frequency that sends a vibrational message to your body which receives the message then acts accordingly. The pill is the messenger, essentially. You and your body are doing the work, not me or the pill. Your body’s default is to heal and cure, like when you cut a finger, so I remove the obstacles in the way, which can be drugs, vaccines or emotions.
I say I am a holistic homeopath as I cover emotional, physical and spiritual layers, the whole body. We will see layers come away, emotions go and others may arise which we then consider and heal.
Homeopathy is so much more advanced than we know of traditional medicine, I think there is a place for both, fewer drugs though! I’ve been training for 6 years and how it works still blows my mind.
It’s a privilege being a homeopathic practitioner, I love my job. If you are intrigued, or if you’re not seeing an improvement from your regular meds and want to know more, please schedule an appointment with me and let me show you how the two can complement each other and reduce your side effects.
Until March, here's to your good health!

Effects from prescribed and over the counter allopathic drugs
Allopathy is the treatment of disease by conventional means, it is a system of medicine where symptoms are suppressed - excellent when we are in acute pain but sometimes overly prescribed.
Some food for thought, this month, as I took on a new patient who was presenting with side effects of the drugs they had been prescribed, it prompted me to write about what I see in the clinic.
Have you heard of the term Polypharmacy?
It’s when someone goes to the doctor for something, let’s say a rash and is given a steroid cream. The steroid cream is absorbed through the skin and enters the bloodstream and has an effect on the lungs so they go back to the doctor with a chest infection, they have been taking paracetamol too.
The doctor gives them an inhaler, as they have been wheezy recently then they begin to present with sinus and the rashes come back so the doctor gives them another steroid cream and some antihistamines to take but the antihistamines affect cortisol levels and adrenal glands so they start to have sleep problems waking up at 1am and coughing in the morning.
Then the doctor prescribes something to help them sleep, sleeping pills. And so the cycle perpetuates, taking a few prescribed drugs at the same time is called polypharmacy, it’s very common and increasingly so amongst the elderly as they might have chronic conditions. Taking multiple medications can increase the risk of side effects, drug interactions, and over sedation. If only the doctor found out what the root cause of the rash was in the first appointment.
Effects and Studies
I spend as much time looking up allopathic drug side effects as I do precribing homeopathic medicine. Did you know the antidepressant Duloxetine has been recalled as it was found to contain carcinogens?
Did you know Ibuprofen is an anticoagulant? It thins the blood and should not be taken after an injury for 48 hours, yet for some, Ibuprofen is the first thing they reach for when injured and needing pain relief. Why is this not common knowledge?
Did you know paracetamol has a detrimental effect on our gut microbiome, in the same way as antibiotics destroy our gut microbiome? As does ibuprofen. Our gut microbiome is where our immune system is made so the drug taken to suppress pain when our immunity is low is making it worse
and slows the rate of healing.
In a recent study about ‘the association of regular use of ibuprofen and paracetamol genetic susceptibility, and new-onset dementia in the older population’, it demonstrated the effects of consuming over the counter drugs. You can read the study HERE.
Chemist+Druggist a multimedia publisher that provides award-winning pharmacy news, views and CPD content to those working in the sector also talks about this study HERE.
Fortunately there is good news too, we can eat fermented food and drinks to offset some side effects and support our gut microbiome, we can use homeopathic medicine to support the detox pathways and raise the vital force.
Eating a healthy diet, taking our multivitamins, minerals and salts, hydrating, exercise and so on, it all helps to maintain a healthy body and mind. But it makes you think; side effects are important, we should read them and discuss them openly with our doctor. We should discuss a strategy for how long we need to take medication, when they can be reduced, whether they can be combined with other drugs, are some good questions to ask. Alternatively, you can see a Homeopathic Practitioner for your conditions and enjoy zero side effects and better ongoing health
This month I joined the society of Homeopaths
Joining the Society of Homeopaths allows me to become part of a recognised community of professional homeopaths in the UK, and globally.
SoH provides access to networking opportunities, professional development resources, insurance coverage, and the ability to showcase your qualifications as a well-trained and registered practitioner through the "RSHom" title, ultimately enhancing my credibility and supporting my practice growth. I'm loooking forward to growing with the extra support around me.
Rejoice, I now have the ability to give you EVERYTHING in 1 pill.
A conversation with a patient about their prescription …
them: WAIT, WHAT? HOW DOES IT WORK?
them: One pill?
them: But 7 symptoms being treated?
them: Not 7 ‘medicines’?
them: This is all new to me. One pill for all sounds really too good to be true. Can you explain when you have a second please?
me: I combined all your remedies into one pill which you take twice daily. Some homeopaths might use one remedy at a time (they are called classical homeopaths), I am a practical homeopath, we use one remedy too sometimes and we also combine remedies, organ support and miasmatic picture together. It’s more practical for the busy 21st century patient. It also results in a faster cure.
